Turtle Vision
1991, dir. Hisayasu Satô
Eiji (Kôichi Imaizumi) is a professional cameraman who spends his nights shooting covert footage of sexual acts around the city for the shadowy adult video studio that employs him. One night while out shooting, he watches a young woman named Saki (Rei Takagi) slash the eyes of her john with a boxcutter. Intrigued, he begins to follow her around, unaware that she—and her older sister, Maki (Kiyomi Itô)—are both connected to the same traumatic incident from his past.
Filmmaker Hisayasu Satô updates the tropes of the standard “rape and revenge” drama for the 90s with his classic pink film Turtle Vision, injecting the narrative with his usual obsessions with voyeurism and urban malaise.
New 2K restoration by Vinegar Syndrome.
