Soft Skin

Minako (Moeko Ezawa) is a lonely housewife who has been chronically neglected by her busy, self-centered husband and adult children. When she unexpectedly finds herself a suitor, the pair concoct a false kidnapping story as a means of teasing her family. Meanwhile, a young woman responsible for a series of chainsaw murders is also on the run. As television news runs wild with these most sensational of stories, all manner of bizarre interactions unfold as Minako contemplates her future.

Made during the waning days of the theatrical pink film industry, Soft Skin finds legendary filmmaker Hisayasu Satô's lens turning towards the absurd and the comedic, eschewing the the cynicism of his earliest work for something far more whimsical.
