Harriet (Lisa DeLeeuw) lives a repressed existence working as a secretary in a Manhattan office. After discovering that her boss (Robert Kerman) is secretly seeing a prostitute named Lucy (Lee Carroll), Harriet works up the courage to approach her to see if she can help her overcome her inhibitions. As the two women become closer and closer friends, Lucy begins to feel that she's losing her identity—to Harriet's benefit.
