The Fat Black Pussycat

1963, dir. Harold Lea

“His nine lives were not enough for their sheer animal desire!”

A black-gloved killer is on the loose, stalking and slashing young hepcat couples in New York’s Greenwich Village. As a young detective goes undercover to sniff out this fiendish assailant before he strikes again, he begins romancing a college professor whose own strange interests have placed her in the killer’s sights.

Originally intended to be a more traditional whodunit" set in the then-hit Village beat poetry scene, The Flat Black Pussycat was later retooled into a delectably crass proto-slasher after its initial cut proved to be a box office flop upon its initial release. Both versions have been newly restored from their original film elements.
