Rafureshia
1995, dir. Hisayasu Satô
Tired of their dead-end existences, abused schoolgirl Alisa (Kinako) and neglected housewife Harumi (Yumi Yoshiyuki) plan a new life together, bankrolled by a bag of stolen money. But with Alisa’s incestuous father (Hiroyuki Kawasaki) and Harumi’s jealous mother-in-law (Kiyomi Itō) in hot pursuit, their journey to the other side of the night becomes longer—and stranger—than they could’ve expected.
An almost absurdist take on the pink film from genre legend Hisayasu Satô, Rafureshia takes an almost fairytale approach to its exploration of the interwoven lives of a pair of very different women who each attempt to harness their sexuality in the face of unavoidable abuse.
New 2K restoration by Vinegar Syndrome.
