Off the Wall
1976, dir. Rick King

John Little (Harvey Waldman) is an aimless drifter and the self-proclaimed "last of the hippies" who is being profiled by a television crew for a documentary. When John begins to feel that the producers are attempting to reshape his life to fit their vision, he spontaneously decides to rob a bank, steal the recording equipment, and document his life on the run.
Out of circulation since its original theatrical release, Rick King's Off the Wall is a sly portrait of the waning years of the counterculture that recalls Jim McBride's David Holzman's Diary (1967) and the diaristic cinema of Jonas Mekas, yet still feels wholly original.
